Quarryhill would not be what it is today without the help of our wonderful volunteers. We're actively seeking new volunteers. If you're interested in joining the team, please read about the different opportunities below, and then follow the directions at the bottom of the page.
ADULT TOUR DOCENTS
Trained volunteers work as tour guides for groups of 10 to 15 guests with reservations. Tours occur though out the year but primarily in spring and summer. Formal training sessions are held in February and March.
Cart rides from the parking lot to the arbor are provided for guests on weekends and for special events. Volunteers are trained and certified in cart driving skills.
ELEMENTARY EDUCATION DOCENTS
Volunteers participate in leading tours for fourth and fifth graders during spring and fall semesters. Training in February/March is oriented to nature and ecology instruction. Tours are scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:30 to 12.
FLOWER SURVEY PROGRAM
Volunteers survey and record plants that are blooming in the garden. Participants work in teams in small sections of the garden. The survey is held twice monthly from 10 to 12 in the morning.
Weeding, dead heading and other grooming jobs are occasionally scheduled in the garden by the Nursery Manager.
Volunteers help with seeding, transplanting and repotting in garden’s nursery. Weeding and pot washing are also occasionally needed. Nursery volunteers meet the first and third Thursdays from 10:00 to 2:00.
Volunteers help with a variety of office tasks including mailings and filing. Work is scheduled usually in the morning as it is needed.
Scheduled events that are held either on or off site need volunteer help greeting guests, driving golf carts, setting up booths, selling plants, transporting materials to the events and tasks that are specific to the occasion.
VISITOR CENTER AND GIFT SHOP
Volunteers are responsible for greeting guests, answering questions, and selling merchandise. Two shifts are scheduled for each day – 9 to 12:30 and 12:30 to 4:00.
Volunteers who complete 25 hours of service each calendar year will receive a free Volunteer Membership to Quarryhill. This includes:
* Unlimited free admission to the garden
* Four QBG guest passes when friends & family accompany the volunteer
* Access to over 200 gardens nationwide through the American Horticultural Society’s Reciprocal Admissions Program
* Receiving the QBG newsletter
* Discounts to QBG events, the QBG gift shop, and certain retail nurseries
