2014 Fall Garden Tour

2014 Fall Garden Tour

Join us for Quarryhill Botanical Garden's annual Fall Garden Tour on Thursday, September 18th. Those who attend will get the rare opportunity to view two stunning local gardens – the Mulberry House and the Jubaea Estate.

The Mulberry House has luminous hues of flower and foliage that welcome you to the entry garden and home of a renowned Bay Area landscape architect. Inside the cozy and artistic interior, stunning garden vistas beckon you onto a sandstone patio to survey a host of beds and borders filled with riveting color from a seemingly unending palette of plants. At every turn along winding paths by low stone walls, you’ll come upon yet another captivating courtyard,  shaded sitting nook, ancient olive, succulent garden, bocce court or formal rose garden, as well as discover delightful surprises, from overflowing vegetable beds to a children’s playhouse, antique French pottery, and rustic metal and modern sculptures. Altogether, this mesmerizing garden offers a haven for relaxation and an unparalleled viewing experience!

When you step foot onto the Jubaea Estate, it is as if you are embarking on a unique and timeless journey through a lavish Mediterranean garden that pays homage to classic Moroccan designs.  Here, around tiled and stone mosaic courtyards, is a glimpse into the ancient beauty introduced centuries ago in the Mediterranean basin where gardens first came into being. Broad pathways lead you away from the central water feature into a 21st century garden, along a seemingly unending pageant of palm trees - 14 species in all - through an allée of century-old olives, past graceful sweeps of Mexican bamboo and a mélange of citrus.  Alluring succulent collections combine seamlessly with exotic broadleaf shrubs and perennials from all five Mediterranean climate regions, blending flower and foliage, texture and hue in sun-drenched beds while shade-loving species find respite under dramatically sculptured branches of our native oaks.
